I am here to help one prepare for transformational experiences, including those with sacred plants, to help create pure intention, answer questions to help navigate new realms, so that you can have a safe and healing journey. I also assist in the integration process following a ceremony to continue the learnings and help incorporate them into your life.
**I do not facilitate, guide or provide experiences with sacred plants, yet am happy to work with you before and/or after such experiences.**
Many indigenous cultures have been healing with plant medicines for centuries. The modern western world is beginning to explore these other methods of healing, through working with sacred plants and other entheogenic substances. The word "entheogen" comes from the root, "entheos", which translates to "full of god, or the divine". These are substances that help us to experience and to meet the divine within and without. Some believe that the medicines have come to us to help us heal from our disconnection from nature, and that disconnection is the root of many of the problems we see in our society today. They are here to help us evolve.
"An entheogenic experience can bring about a transcendent or peak experience. (Abraham) Maslow felt that peak experiences, in themselves, were life changing and valuable. A transcendent experience can lead to a whole range of phenomena, from a spiritual emergence that is positive and transformational to a spiritual emergency that is regressive and overwhelming. Integration of the experience is essential for spiritual, psychological, and physical health. If the ego is not developmentally mature enough, an altered state experience can precipitate a traumatic reaction." - Deborah Quevedo, RN, PhD
My interest in this work is two fold.
One is for the wellbeing of the person. I want to make sure you are well prepared and well equipped to integrate your own experience. I believe it is important to be cared for in the post ceremony period where integration is necessary. If you are feeling too open, sensitive, vulnerable afterwards, feeling incomplete, or want to make sense of and find meaning in these complex transpersonal experiences, I am here to assist.
Also, I want to help you take the amazing teachings and insights of what you've learned and incorporate them into your life outside of ceremony.
Integration can be a life-long process. We can explore together which tools will help you in this process for days, months, years to come.
Part of what I believe this type of work offers is a waking up to the current state of our world, and what our place is, what our purpose is during this time to help humanity learn to live in a sustainable and harmonious way with our planet. My intention is to help you be a part of the conscious community of humans in an active way.
Second, and certainly no less important, is for the plants and the traditions they are a part of. We need to understand these plants are valued medicine. These are not hallucinogenic drugs, nor should be experimented with recreationally. Because working with certain sacred plants is not our primary tradition in North America, as westerners that are drawn to these ways, there needs to be a sensitivity in how to approach these plant beings with humility and respect, as well as the peoples and traditions they have come from. By being responsible in the ways we work with these medicines, we are helping to keep this medicine sacred, and honor the traditions they have come from.
It is also very important to understand the cultural context in which these medicines are a part. If one is meeting these plants in the jungle, it is important to respect that you are entering a different culture, with different norms, customs, and values. If you are in your home country, may we learn how to respectfully integrate these indigenous traditions into a western context, with a delicate awareness of cultural appropriation, differing worldviews and 'mixing of medicines'.
Plants are living beings; through working with them, getting to know them, we create a relationship; and it is through engaging in that personal relationship that we learn the most.
